Work in progress ...

It sucks that I haven't managed to learn how to take decent photos of graphite on white (yep, not grey!) papers. This is something I really need to work on improving. Aargh!! However I have decided to still include these appalling images in the hope that one day I can do a 'before' and 'after' photo and then I can say "whoa look how far I have come".  Yes I know ridiculous isn't it!!

There's another reason though. This is the largest drawing I have ever undertaken, daunting and out of my comfort zone - definitely!!

It's huge and a real challenge, by putting it on here, I know that I will have to finish it!!!

90 x 120cms.

And a couple of close up images of the drawing in progress:

These reference 'veins' that carry our blood throughout our body. They are meant to appear as bindings, bound and constricted in sections.

  1. Very nice line work, Lindy. Yes, it must be frustrating to showcase such fine work when the photography doesn't cooperate.
One way is to manually override the exposure to purposely overexpose the shot. On auto, it is underexposed because the camera's meter thinks there's too much white and compensates to average the "scene" to a gray. The overexposure needed can be as much as 1 or 2 stops. Another way is to compensate after by carefully increasing the contrast and brightness.
    Anyway, great work, Lindy.

  2. Hi Curtis,
Thank you so much for taking the time to not only comment but to offer some fabulous advice!! Greatly appreciated and will adopt these suggestions!

Once upon a time I studied photography for awhile with a manual SLR camera... no problems. Now I'm trying to learn the 'oh so easy' (not!!) digital camera which for someone so technically challenged as myself is proving horrendous!!! Aargh!!

However I will continue to try and improve and thank you once again for your advice!!
    warm regards
